Singing with Fiddelium at The Port Theatre
I am incredibly honoured to be the special guest and invite the audience to sing along at this SIXTH Port Theatre performance featuring Canadian Folk Music Award winners Fiddelium!

Fiddelium has represented Nanaimo on the national stage for ten years, garnering two CFMA nominations as well as the award for Young Performer of the Year (2023). Recently they were featured in Tod Maffin’s video performance “I Am The Very Model of a Modern Day Canadian”. This youth string ensemble plays intricate and thrilling arrangements of traditional and contemporary folk music from around the world. Fiddelium will absolutely shatter your expectations with their high-calibre playing and professional stage presence.

Instead of a concert, we celebrate the end of each season of my Humble Harmony community singing group with a BIG SING, where folks from my three groups in Nanaimo and Parksville gather to share the songs we’ve been learning, and invite the community in to sing along with us! These uplifting songs are easy to learn by ear, with exciting layers of harmony and rhythm. While this is a participatory event, listeners are welcome too (but don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing)!
Join us for heart-opening songs of Love and Freedom (our themes this season), from the community singing movement, One Love by Bob Marley, and Shosholoza from South Africa. April Laurie will lead some vocal play, and accompany us on percussion.

Luke Wallace - Nanaimo Concert and Workshop
I’m excited to be presenting Luke Wallace in collaboration with St. Andrews United Church, for an evening concert on April 17 (I’ll be the opening act, with some harmonizing friends), and a singing workshop on April 18.

What? FREE Outdoor Sing for Peace: Come sing harmony- and rhythm-rich songs of peace and unity, led by Sylvia Humble and co-host Myriam Verzat, with percussion and circle singing by April Laurie. ALL VOICES WELCOME!
Why? Because the world needs more singing in public.
Where? Maffeo Sutton Park - Pavillion.

How? Warmly! Please dress for winter, and bring something hot to drink if possible.

Sing For Coco: Spirit- and Fund-raiser
Let’s raise our voices together in support of beloved Canadian singer-songwriter, choir leader, and mother Coco Love Alcorn, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Join with others whose hearts and lives have been moved by Coco’s music, to sing her songs and collectively envision her health and vitality! This is a community sing, not a concert; all voices are welcome ~ listeners too!
This is a collaboration with special guests Tom Arntzen, Narissa Young, Jenny Lester, Sylvia Wende, Rebekah Demirel, Kim Bothen, and Kazimea Sokil, April Laurie, and myself as host. There will be a mix of learning simple harmonies and letting it flow, and room to move (chairs optional).

Singing will start at 4:00 until 5:30, followed by a potluck for those who would like to stay and share stories of Coco's awesomeness (bring a dish to share; we have access to a full kitchen).

Song Circle/ Harmony Workshop: Welcoming the Light - PARKSVILLE
Let’s give the returning sun a warm welcome in song, as we raise and weave our voices together in harmony in this two-hour informal workshop / community song circle. All voices are welcome regardless of experience; it’s about connection not perfection.
All songs are taught in the oral tradition by call and response, without sheet music. Some songs have 3 or 4 harmony parts, and some have a simple structure with room for harmonies to arise organically. There are sometimes actions or easy body percussion to accompany the songs, and always freedom to move. There are no “wrong notes” and our aim is joy and connection, not perfection.
Learn songs celebrating the returning light in the new year, songs to lift the spirit, by songwriters in the community singing movement (see event page), and one by the Beatles: “Here Comes The Sun”. The workshop is two hours, with a break for ginger tea; connect with others who love to sing!
All voices belong, whether you are a shy beginner or a confident pro.
Winter Solstice Community Song Circle - NANAIMO

4th Annual Community Christmas Singalong - PARKSVILLE
On Dec. 20, it’s my fourth annual Christmas Singalong at the McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville! With pianist Chrissandra Unger and pianist/ singer-songwriter James Pham. This is not a "choir" event, just a chance to share the joy of the season in song, in community. Lyrics will be projected on a big screen for all to sing along. Tickets $20/ $10 youth through the MAC box office. If you like Christmas carols and favourites, come share the joy! Here’s my original Christmas song recorded at this event a couple of years back.
Humble Harmony BIG SING and potluck/ snackluck
Join Humble Harmony song circle for our BIG SING and potluck, on Saturday, Dec. 13, 1:30 - 4pm at Nanoose Bay Library Hall. At the end of every season, instead of a concert, folks from my three groups in Nanaimo and Parksville gather together somewhere in between, and celebrate by singing the songs we've been learning, and welcoming friends, family, and the community at large to join in. It’s a community sing! ALL VOICES WELCOME to join us in song (listeners too)!

To celebrate the end of our early fall season of Humble Harmony, we’re having a BIG SING: Saturday Oct. 25 at Oliver Woods Community Centre in North Nanaimo, from 3:30 - 5pm, followed by potluck! It's for everyone from my Nanaimo and Parksville groups to come together and sing the songs we’ve been learning- and friends / family (or anyone!) are welcome to join us. It's not a concert, it's a community sing... but listeners are welcome too. My co-conspirator April Laurie (who co-leads our Nanaimo evening group) will lead us in a playful warmup and improvised circle song! By donation - proceeds supporting Kayalitsha Youth Choir near Capetown, South Africa. Come join the community fun! No need to RSVP- just show up if you can! To celebrate the end of our season of Humble Harmony, we’re having a BIG SING: outdoors at Huddlestone Park in Lantzville on Friday June 4, from 5 - 6:30, followed by potluck! It's for everyone from my Nanaimo and Parksville groups to come together and sing the songs we know - and friends / family (or anyone!) are welcome to join us. It's not a concert, it's a community sing... but listeners are welcome too. My co-conspirator April Laurie (who co-leads our Nanaimo evening group) will lead us in a playful warmup and improvised circle song! Donations appreciated. Come join the community fun! Limited parking is available at the park. If walking is an option, please park at the municipal lot at Lantzville School Road. No parking on Huddlestone Road as it may impede emergency vehicles.
